Are SPF's Protecting your skin? Even dangerous?

Are SPF's Protecting your skin? Even dangerous?

Posted by Kelly Duncan on 3rd May 2018

We are all guilty of indulging in the rays on a beautiful (& rare!) sunny day in the UK, let alone the sun worship we do when we're on holiday. BUT even just a small time in the sun can do some serious damage.

Damage isn't just the burn you get, that's the damage that you can see. There's also a lot more of damage going on beneath the skins surface [this is where skin cancers start mostly], and you can't see!  Cases of skin cancer have risen five times higher than they were during the mid 1970’s, according to Cancer Research UK.

Even people who have always worn SPF protection or who have never exposed themselves to the sun for long periods of time are also claiming to have been diagnosed with the disease. How is this possible?

The hidden danger is UVA, which many high street sunscreens do not offer protection against and when they do its offend with chemicals which are also cell damagers  It is important that you protect yourself against UVA, as UVA penetrates the skin to the deep layers of the dermis, close to your nerves and glands, and mutates cells that are being formed in the lower dermis.

According to a recent poll, 80% of people don’t understand what SPF protection means and 56% didn’t know SPF only protects against UVB rays not UVA rays.

So let's tackle the first question, what on earth are UVA & UVB and what is the difference?

UVA light contributes to skin aging and the development of skin cancer as it penetrates deeper into the skin. It has a consistent intensity throughout the day, all year round and can penetrate through cloud and glass.

UVB light is more intense and leads to the redness and sunburn that is indicative to some degree of DNA damage which in turn can potentially lead to genetic mutations and skin cancers.

Think of it as UVBurn and UVAging!

Now it's all well and good scientists and the in the know Doctors telling you this but what can you do to protect your skin from ageing and the UVA damage in the sun?

YOU CAN DO A LOT

Natural Oils! It has been found that Natural Oils will neutralise the UVA Light. A little like when electricity comes into contact with a rubber.

We have developed an oil that works PERFECTLY for just that.

The UVA Protection Sun Body Oil at £23.99 contains 3 vital ingredients:

  • Grapeseed- antioxidant, protects from UVA Free Radical damage, Reinforces the Hydrolipid film.
  • Peach- Nourishes & refreshes.
  • Avocado- Contains Vitamins C & E that hold strong antioxidant properties, preventing Free Radical Damage, a natural Moisturiser.

That’s not the only advantage! Along with being free from chemicals, parabens and synthetic perfumes - so perfect for sensitive skin, it is also massively moisturising and protective to collagen, so a real anti-ageing benefit!

PLEASE NOTE: Anti-oxidant and natural oils will not stop you getting burnt if you are in the sun for too long. You must also put an SPF on top of the natural oil to stop you getting burnt. Alternatively, sit in the shade or cover up.
