Are You a Skincare Addict ?

Are You a Skincare Addict ?

We’ve all heard of Cosmetic addiction, “not wanting to leave the house without makeup on, drawers full of branded cosmetics that give a temporary fix, desperately clinging to make up routines that don’t work anymore as we age, obscene amounts of money spent on products trying to solve skin problems”

Now there’s a new obsession to deal with, it’s called the Skincare Addiction: “Definition of Addiction:  when your natural interest goes too far and becomes an unhealthy reliance on something”. So if you know you're using more skin care products than you need and you can't stop, it's fair to say that you're probably addicted to skincare...

Consumers have woken up to the fact that makeup doesn't really make you more beautiful or solve your skin issues. In fact hiding your blemishes and imperfections with makeup tends to make your skin worse. Skincare serves an important purpose in your daily routine but it’s possible to go overboard whilst taking care of your skin. You might simply be using too many or the wrong skin care products and this excess can unknowingly damage your skin.

Cosmetics manufacturers have successfully capitalised on the world's new obsession with skincare, they know that the more steps the beauty magazines insist are necessary to include in your daily skin care routine, the more products they can sell, many women find themselves in a spiral of more and more empty bottles with endless sums of money disappearing from their bank accounts.  In the past, it would have seemed silly to perform more than 3 steps in a daily routine. The gold standard of wash, tone, and moisturise seemed to work for everyone, there was no indication that adding more steps to your routine would impart further benefits. The free market, however, operates on the forces of supply and demand, so when there is a lack of demand, the people manipulating the engines of commerce find a way to create it out of thin air. There is a powerful push, especially in South Korea, where manufacturing skincare is a large portion of its GDP, to develop products to unload on Western customers. Some beauty brands recommend the need to use at least   7, 8 or 10 different products in a daily routine. Beauty magazines, which are the propaganda arm of the global skin care industry, do their best to convince women that if they don't use all of these products, they will be ugly, age faster, or die alone.
