What Is Pigmentation?
Pigmentation occurs when melanocytes produce excess melanin in response to internal or external stimuli.
This overproduction can be triggered by UV radiation, inflammation, hormonal changes or skin injury, leading to the uneven accumulation of pigment in the epidermis or dermis. The depth and trigger of melanin deposition determine both the appearance of pigmentation and how it should be treated.
☀️ Sun Spots (Solar Lentigines)
Caused by cumulative UV exposure over time. Common on the face, hands and décolletage.
🔥 Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
Dark marks left behind after acne, irritation or skin trauma.
🧬 Melasma
Hormone-related pigmentation, often worsened by sun exposure and heat.
Why Pigmentation Keeps Returning, Even When You Wear SPF
UVA rays are the primary driver of pigmentation and premature ageing. Unlike UVB, UVA penetrates deeper into the skin and can bypass many traditional SPFs.
● Penetrates glass and cloud cover
● Triggers melanin production deep in the skin
● Accelerates pigmentation and collagen breakdown
This is why pigmentation often persists, even in people who 'do everything right'
Prevent Future Pigmentation Before It Starts
Preventing pigmentation means protecting skin from UVA-induced oxidative stress. Our Pre-Sun Oil is designed to work alongside sunscreen, supporting skin resilience during sun exposure.
● Helps defend against UVA-induced damage
● Reduces oxidative stress that triggers melanin overproduction
● Supports skin during sun exposure
