Healthy Skin Starts With Cleansing
Removing make up matters more than you think
Let’s talk about cleansing and removing makeup properly.
Makeup is often a cocktail of chemicals that can contribute to dryness, irritation, stressed skin, and premature ageing. Ensuring it is fully removed at the end of the day is one of the most important steps in maintaining healthy skin.
Of course, when using our oils or creams, you are creating a protective barrier between your skin, environmental stressors, and many of the chemicals found in makeup.
However, cleansing correctly is still essential. So let’s dive into what actually works.
Firstly, avoid micellar waters. In our opinion, they can be harsh on the skin, and many conventional face washes and cleansers are filled with unnecessary chemicals that may disrupt the skin barrier over time.
When using our face wash, you are cleansing the skin in a much gentler way while still effectively removing makeup. One technique we have developed alongside film and stage makeup artists is combining any of our oils with the face wash and warm water.
This does two very important things:
- The oil helps break down the chemical compounds found in makeup, especially stubborn or waterproof products. For heavier makeup, apply a little oil first to loosen it before cleansing with the face wash for a beautifully thorough cleanse.
- Modern water can contain harsh chemicals that may affect the skin barrier and natural balance. While our digestive system can process many of these when drinking water, the skin is far more vulnerable. Introducing a little oil into your cleansing routine helps support the skin’s natural pH and leaves the skin feeling calmer, softer, and more balanced.
Another excellent tip for dry skin is to apply our oils onto damp - or even wet - skin. This dramatically boosts hydration by locking moisture into the skin while sealing in the nourishing oils. The result is deeply hydrated, healthier-looking skin with improved protection against premature ageing, UV stress, and free radical damage, which are some of the biggest contributors to skin ageing and long-term skin damage.
