When it comes to skin health, it’s all about the barrier and the natural fatty oils that protect it. These oils are often not produced quickly enough and are easily stripped away by chemicals — many of which are designed to do exactly that. Shower gels, soaps, and, worse still, many medical products are made using synthetic or petrochemical ingredients. Even water can be drying, as it often has a low pH.
The solution is simple but powerful: remove these harsh chemicals and replenish the skin with natural oils. These oils rebuild the protective barrier, provide lubrication so skin cells remain flexible, and even help counteract the drying effects of water’s low pH.
It’s essential that products are truly natural and not petrochemical-based — unfortunately, many are. Always check the ingredient list: words like paraffin indicate petroleum-derived ingredients. Think about it — petrol removes paint. Imagine what it’s doing to your skin. These ingredients should be avoided at all costs.
Now for the interesting part: bacteria can sometimes be involved. A university study showed that bacteria play a role in around 30% of cases, often linked to sweat. In these situations, an antibacterial product may be needed. However, if bacteria aren’t the issue, antibacterial ingredients can actually irritate the skin, as they act like antiseptics. That’s why the hypoallergenic range — with no essential oils — often works best.
The challenge is knowing which one is right, and the only way to find out is to try. That’s exactly why we include both ranges in the sample kit — antibacterial (with essential oils) and hypoallergenic (without). This allows you to discover what your skin truly responds to.
Once the most suitable range is identified — sometimes it’s a combination of both — full-size products should be used to rebuild the skin barrier. These products also encourage the skin to begin producing its own natural oils again. If steroid creams are being used, it may be necessary to reduce them gradually rather than stopping suddenly, but synthetic and petrochemical products should be stopped.
