About us

Natural Elements was founded in 1998 by Karen Blackmore and John Hamilton, who's now a bio-gerontologist ( the study of why cells age and what stops or reverses it). Together, they embarked on a mission to redefine skincare in a time when they were literally they were only developers of such using naturals.

The internet was still in its infancy, and most people had never heard us talk about the potential problems associated with ingredients such as parabens, petroleum-derived ingredients, synthetic perfumes and harsh chemical formulations.

We travelled to exhibitions and spoke directly to people about what we were discovering. At the time, many simply didn’t understand why we were questioning ingredients that were being used so widely throughout the beauty or medical industry.

Today, the conversation has changed dramatically.

Over the years, we’ve seen more and more people come to us with concerns such as dry and uncomfortable skin, premature-looking ageing, redness, rosacea, eczema, dermatitis and highly sensitive skin etc.

And every day, people still approach us looking for an alternative because the products they have been using simply aren't giving them the results they want.

Our approach is based on understanding what happens at the cellular and molecular level.

Our work has taken us into areas of research surrounding cell ageing, longevity and the mechanisms involved in cellular damage and decline. We have worked alongside academics and researchers and have developed our own research interests, including work and academic engagement connected with Birmingham University, alongside our interest in pioneering longevity research from leading institutions such as Harvard and Stanford.

This deeper understanding influences the way we develop our formulations.

Rather than simply following what the beauty industry has always done, we ask a different question:

What does skin actually need to remain healthy, resilient and youthful-looking?

That question has driven our work for more than 25 years.

John and Karen formed a R&D facility that pioneered natural and organic formulations for nearly 3 decades. This venture was ahead of its time, advocating for a shift from harmful petrochemicals to natural ingredients. Essentially, Yours became the silent force behind many renowned brands, which created the natural organic sector in the early 2000's 

Natural Elements was introduced in response to the demand for harsh, chemical-free products among professional beauty therapists and salons in the UK.
