Why Using Retinol is Causing You More Harm Than Good.•

Retinols or Vitamin A are having time in the skincare spotlight at the minute, hailed as the holy grail of anti-ageing and the ‘must have’ product for an anti-ageing routine.
However, you aren’t getting the full story with these products, Retinol can actually be harmful for the skin and can be a total waste of time and money in terms of anti-ageing effects.
An official line on retinol is “Retinol is a potent form of synthetic vitamin A. Data from an FDA study indicate that retinoid ingredients may speed the development of skin tumours and lesions on sun-exposed skin.”
Let’s start with what Retinol does to your skin. When applied to your skin, it will prompt the surface skin cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for the new cell growth underneath. By encouraging your skin to do this process you are interfering with the molecular biology of those cells and also removing the natural protective surface layer which protects your Collagen Cells, Fibres & Elastins.
The new skin you are exposing through this speeded up exfoliation has not had enough time to build up its natural protection and that can mean you are more exposed and susceptible to Skin Cancer, Pigmentation Spots and Premature Ageing & Wrinkles.
Many brands encourage heavier sunscreen use when using retinoids which theoretically ‘protect’ against the increased threat of UVA and UVB ray BUT as we discuss in this blog, sunscreens can often do more damage than they protect.
Retinol has also been said to thicken your skin. Think of when someone has worshipped the sun for a very long time, they always have much thicker skin and can look drastically older than they are.
There are more effective ways to stop wrinkles and fine lines without damaging your skin!
Our Co-Founder, dermatologist John Hamilton has dedicated 20 years into the research of skin Anti-Ageing. In the past 5 years, he has closely followed a study into Cell Decay and says, “nearly all skincare products have got it totally wrong in Anti-Ageing”.
New understanding into Cell Ageing is showing that unless you have potent Antioxidants reaching the deeper layers of your skin, your efforts are not going to do much. Remember just using a cream on its own will only be able to sit on the surface layer of the skin. This is where Natural Oils step in. Natural Oils contain the most powerful, unadulterated antioxidants will act as a carrier for the natural vitamins being applied to your skin, delivering them to the dermis to boost repair, protection from free radicals and anti ageing.
That's why people like Karen, below, at 65 this year has next to no lines and wrinkles
Our recommendation? Ditch synthetic damaging retinol and indulge your skin with potent Antioxidants found in unadulterated, Therapeutic Grade, Natural Plant Oils. These oils contain Vitamins and Proteins which not only protect your skin but also help to create new collagen.
